Wayne Fitzgerrell

 State Recreation Area     

 For horseback riders, a 9-mile bridle trail encircles the wildlife/field trial area, and opportunities to see and photograph wildlife abound. The trail is open to all equestrians for most of the year. From Sept. 15 to April 15, the bridle trail is closed during the hunting and designated field trial seasons.

Located 6 miles north of Benton on Illinois Route 154, Wayne Fitzgerrell is a 1 1/2-hour drive from St. Louis via Interstate 64, or 5 hours from Chicago on Interstate 57.

From the north: Follow Rt. 130 south to Rt. 33 east. Turn east on Rt. 33 and go 1 mile to park entrance.
From the south: Follow Rt. 130 north to Rt 33 east. Turn east on Rt. 33 and go 1 mile to park entrance. From the west: Follow Rt. 33 east from Effingham 25 miles to park entrance. (2 mile east of Newton). From the east: Follow Rt. 33 west 21 mile from Robinson to park entrance.
