| Chouteau Island is a very nice easy ride along the levies
on nice flat ground. Because the ground on top of the levy is road like
gravel you can ride here even when it rains. When riding please ride at
the top of the levy or ride at the bottom of the levy on either the water
side or woods side. No riding half way down on the levy walls (request by
park officials to avoid wall erosion). The trail is shared with bikes and
walkers but the trail has very little traffic. Nice view of the canal and lots of deer and other
wild life. The trail is around 11 miles. But you can shorten it to any
length by just riding back the way you came. |

Directions
Directions to trail and parking area. Take you best route to Hwy 270
and route 3. Take route 3 south. Make an almost immediate right on West
Chain of Rocks road. You will cross over an old steel bridge. As you
cross the bridge you will see at the end of the bridge a turn to the
left. Follow the dirt road to the T and take a left. This will put
you headed under the bridge you just crossed. Park just before the bridge
in the grass leaving room for others to get by on that dirt road. |
